The older D-series and F-series cars in the earlier Civic, Ballade, Accord and Prelude use a distributor with the coil and ignitor inside it, along with HT leads, a cap and a rotor arm. That distinction changes everything about how you diagnose a misfire, and it changes what we pull off the shelf for you.

How do I know if a Honda ignition coil is failing?
The usual signs are a rough idle, a hesitation or stumble under acceleration, a flashing check engine light and worse fuel consumption than normal. On a coil-on-plug engine there is a simple test: swap the suspect coil onto a different cylinder and rescan. If the misfire follows the coil to the new cylinder, you have found it.
Does my Honda have a distributor or coil-on-plug?
The newer K-series, L-series and R-series engines all use coil-on-plug — one coil sitting directly on each spark plug. The older D-series and F-series engines in the earlier Civic, Ballade, Accord and Prelude use a distributor with HT leads. Open the bonnet and look: four separate coils on top of the head means coil-on-plug, one round unit with four thick leads means a distributor.
How often should Honda spark plugs be replaced?
That depends on the engine and the plug grade — nickel plugs need changing far more often than platinum or iridium, and the interval in your Honda service book is the number to work to. We would rather point you at the book than invent a figure. If your plugs are out and you want a second opinion on their condition, send us a photo.
Do you stock ignition parts for older Honda models?
