Sandton enquiries look different to the rest of Gauteng. Very few people up here are chasing a complete motor. Most of the calls we take from Bryanston, Rivonia, Sunninghill and Fourways come from panel beaters, or from an owner who has just been reversed into, and the shopping list is bodywork and electronics — a fender, a headlight assembly, a door mirror, a module that stopped talking to the car after the impact. Start with the colour code. Not the colour name — the code, off the VIN plate in the driver door shut. Two cars that both read as grey in the sunlight can carry different codes, and a panel in the wrong code will show at the shut line no matter how good the fitter is. Straight Used Originals Versus Aftermarket

A used original panel was pressed on the same tooling as the one you are replacing, so the mounting points, the shut lines and the light apertures all land where the fitter expects them. Aftermarket is cheaper and perfectly reasonable on a bumper cover or a rear quarter that is being sprayed anyway, but it can want fettling to sit square. On a bonnet or a front fender we would generally point you at the used original and let the paint be the only variable. Our Honda body panels are pulled and inspected for filler, previous repair and hidden buckling before they go out — we would rather turn a panel down than have your beater find the damage on the bench.

Lighting, Mirrors and Body Control Modules

Headlight assemblies are the single most-requested item on this route, followed by door mirrors — the powered, heated, indicator-in-the-glass kind that cost a great deal new and get taken off in a car park. We check lenses for crazing and the mounting tabs for cracks before despatch. Body control modules and lighting modules are matched by the part number printed on the unit rather than by model year, and some need coding to the car after fitment, so tell us who is doing the work.
